Thick Coatings – 50 to 100 micrometers (0.050 to 0.100 mm)

SSC has the capability to apply metallo-ceramic coatings at thicknesses well beyond the industry standard of 3±2 micrometers, where 8-10 micrometers is considered a practical limit for an operational, reliable coating. Between our 50-100 micrometers maximum and a minimum under 1 micrometer, with good control of applied thickness, a wide range of thicknesses is available for repair build-up on precision parts (by itself or on top of plasma spray for very thick repairs). Unlike hard chromium or plasma spray, SSC coatings do not need subsequent machining or surface refinishing. In applications demanding heavy contact loads, a thicker coating insures a longer life. SSC technology provides reliable adhesion and integrity of thick coatings, and allows their safe use in applications undergoing repeated deep
thermal cycles in service.
