SSC Technology & Applications
SSC coatings are 2 to 5 times harder than any available heat or cryogenic treatment, nitrided, or hard chromium plated surfaces and they separate the base material from the environment with a chemically inert metallo-ceramic layer that becomes part of the surface, not a plating. Friction is reduced 1.5 to 6.0 times, reducing wear and improving energy efficiency. The technology is environmentally friendly and does not produce toxic waste. Basic ingredients are refractory metals (Titanium, Chromium, Zirconium, Vanadium, Tungsten, etc), alloys and powder metallurgy products (Titanium-Aluminum in different proportions, Titanium-Aluminum-Chromium, etc), or metalloorganic compounds and reactive gases (Nitrogen, Methane, Oxygen, etc). The coatings are nitrides, carbides, carbonitrides, oxides, borides, etc of these metals or alloys, in multi-layers with thickness that can be accurately controlled to the nano-level and resulting in drastically improved properties. Well-proven HIDTM (High Ionization Deposition) and HI3DTM (High Ionization Deep Diffusion Deposition) types of hard coatings extend the life of tools and mechanical wear parts 2 to 10 times. The line of LUBEXTM coatings incorporates DLC (Diamond-Like- Carbon) in the hard metallo-ceramic to decrease friction further, while preserving the majority of hardness and load-bearing capability of the coating. SSC technology and equipment transformed the science and
art of hard coatings from an ‘ivory tower’ type of laboratory
environment requiring highly specialized operators and coating small
batches of cutting tools, to an industrially-hardened operation able
to run 7/24 in industrial facilities, handling large, heavy parts or
batches and delivering long lasting performance
